World Cup 2010

As the pulse of Africa begins to beat faster in anticipation of the world’s greatest sporting event coming to its shores, GAC Laser has continued its drive to add to the enthusiasm in the build up to the game.

The power and ability of sport to bring our nation together is unquestioned. GAC Laser believes wholeheartedly that South Africa’s hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will unite people far beyond the boundaries of the stadiums in which the matches are played. The company also believes that is the best-ever opportunity to prove to the world that the dream of the rainbow nation is a reality and that diversity of culture should be embraced.

South Africa now has the infrastructure, the resources and the team. And GAC Laser can’t wait to welcome its guests under African skies to watch the greatest footballing spectacle on earth.

The 100 days-to-go mark on the calendar left GAC Laser celebrating the milestone with a profusion of soccer-related activities at offices and branches throughout the country. GAC Laser marked the day with a Fly the Flag campaign, with each employee receiving a national flag and a leaflet outlining the symbolism, history and heritage of the flag. All divisions took to making this a day of celebration, with mini-soccer tournaments taking place during the lunch hour, singing the national anthem, waving their flags and spreading the message to neighbouring businesses

Football Friday at GAC Laser

Fridays sees GAC Laser staff around the country donning their football jerseys in support of their favourite team. Here we see our staff wearing shirts that one of our customers is importing from Germany and is an official FIFA sponsor supplier. GAC Laser has cleared, warehoused and distributed the product.

On the road

Pictured alongside is the new Bus Rapid Transport system or BRT roadway that is being built for completion before the World Cup. This will privde South Africa with a new and more efficient public transport system. The red pigment used was imported by one of GAC Laser’s customers and is being stored in the Cape Town warehouse during the construction period.

At the stadiums

GAC Laser has facilitated the import and distribution of the seating for two of the new World Cup stadiums; the Mbombela stadium with its zebra effect on seats and giraffe towers standing guard outside the stadium, and the Cape Town stadium, dubbed “the diva of Cape Town” due to its ability to reflect the constantly changing moods of the city in varying weather conditions. The seats were designed by a Polish company.

Whether you are part of the 99% of the South African public who can’t wait for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to kick off, or part of the remaining 1% who say that they’re not really that interested (but will secretly be watching the event anyway), there is simply no escaping the fact that this country is pulling out all the stops to make this the best supported World Cup ever.
